Star Valley Wyoming’s three Rivers, the Snake, the Salt River and the Greys River provide a plethora of floating opportunities for the rafter, kayaker or canoeist. The Snake River Range, The Salt River Range and the Wyoming Range are cloud magnets that once it gets a cloud it won’t let it go until it has wrung our every last bit of moisture it has to offer, this has been a boon for the Star Valley river enthusiast.
The Salt River is a meandering river without any whitewater on it. The Greys River has a couple of whitewater sections but most of it is quite safe for the scenic float, check before you go. The Snake River is another story, most of it close to Star Valley is whitewater but about 20 miles north there are some beautiful calm water stretches that are safe for the scenic floater.
Visitors without boats can go on commercial guided trips of which there are many and is a very safe way to go and entertaining as well because guides naturally become naturalists and comedians after awhile. |
